2004 Day of Caring

The 2004 Day of Caring was a great success for all the Corporate and Agency partners who came together to volunteer for area nonprofit agencies. Despite some weather-related postponements, all projects are comlete, and everyone participating reported having enjoyed the opportunity to give back to their local community. Below are images from our 2004 Day of Caring activities.

Volunteers from the Junior League of Fairfield County pitched in with a painting project at the Salvation Army of Greater Bridgeport. Representatives from Beardsley Brown and Bassett, including United Way Board Chairman Mark Fries, center, prepared picnic food for clients and volunteers at the Goodwill Industries of Western Connecticut offices. Joining Mark at the grill are Rob O'Connor and Jim D'Agostino.

The team from media sponsor Cox Broadcasting take a break to chat with event chairman Dan Carney during their Day of Caring chores at Fairfield Community Services.

Volunteers from sponsor Koskoff, Koskoff and Biedercheck out the nearly completed addition of third floor classrooms at Caroline House.

Above and below, Employees from Taco Loco, the CT Legal Services, Inc. and the Hispanic Commercial Guide made a Kosher Mexican Fiesta and provided entertainment for clients at the Jewish Home for the Elderly Adult Day Program.

The Day of Caring Corporate Action Team from event co-sponsor Aquarion gathered to work at the Center for Women and Families of eastern Fairfield County offices in Bridgeport.

An equally enthusiastic group from co-sponsoring Cadbury-Schweppes pitched in with carpentry skills at the Stratford Habitat for Humanity project.

City of Bridgeport volunteers served up lunch with a smile at Merton House. Pictured l to r are Kim Rose, Nancy Mendoza, Paul Connelly and Geri Evans.

United Way Board member Steve Jakab from Bridgeport Hospital and Ed Blodgett from event sponsor Somerset Capital had lots of wall space to sling paint at the Cardinal Shehan Center in Bridgeport.

Poonam Sharma from the Ct. Dept. of Social Services also put her painting talents to work at Family Services Woodfield, Inc.

Elaine Dumoulin, Shantel Moore, Jeanette Rivera and Jadue Sogliuzzi all lent a hand serving clients and volunteers during the picnic at Goodwill Industries of Western Connecticut.

United Way Board Member Paul Huo represented the University of Bridgeport during the painting project at Bridgeport's Cardinal Shehan Center.

People's Bank Corporate Action Team volunteers created holiday crafts for an upcoming benefit activity at Goodwill Industries of Western Connecticut.

Other People's Bank staff members braved the rain to host another successful picnic for clients and volunteers from the Kennedy Center at Boothe Memorial Park in Stratford. Pictured are Anna Anderson and Jim McGuire.

United Way supports Safe Start, by The Center for Women & Families, which focuses on creating a safe and secure environment for children ages 0-6 years who are at strong risk of violence in the home.
