about our area

United Way works in your community to improve people's lives. By focusing specifically on Eastern Fairfield County, United Way can work with dedicated, local nonprofit agencies to identify critical community needs and generate resources to address these needs. Whether it is a homeless family, a young person who needs the guidance of a Big Brother, a battered woman who needs shelter, a stroke victim who must relearn basic life skills, a child in need of adequate reading skills, or a child wishing for a holiday gift, it is our mission to know about it...and to make it better.

For more than 80 years, United Way of Eastern Fairfield County has been making a difference in the Greater Bridgeport area. Founded in 1921 as the Community Chest, United Way helps people who need help the most at local health and human service agencies.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to build a stronger Eastern Fairfield County by mobilizing our community to improve people's lives. Our activities are directed toward identifying and solving the community's most pressing problems. We are working to create sustained changes in community conditions.

United Way is a local, nonprofit organization governed by volunteers representing the six-town area of Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford and Trumbull. We fund more than 40 programs providing a broad range of health and human services touching the lives of more than 180,000 people each year. In addition to our funded programs, more than $2.4 million was raised through the United Way Community Campaign to support donor-selected nonprofit health, social service and educational organizations throughout Connecticut.

United Way builds collaboratives, focuses on targeted initiatives and conducts year-round fundraising to allocate funds to programs delivering results. We serve as the "common table" that gathers diverse community agencies and individuals together to address the most pressing needs within the four Impact Areas.
