A delightful time was had by all at the June 15 Breakfast, honoring Employee Campaign Managers, Team Captains, and CEOs of United Way’s Community Partner companies. Adding to the enjoyment was a trolley ride from Trumbull to Bridgeport. Guests could choose to be transported to the site in a turn-of-the -century streetcar made available by the Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority.
RBS National Bank sponsored the event, which took place at its impressive Lafayette Boulevard facility in Bridgeport. RBS United Way Campaign Co-Chairs Rexanne Kudravy-Wargo and Dan McCarthy and other RBS staff members did an outstanding job planning and overseeing the Breakfast. Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages kindly donated a lovely gift basket, which was raffled off during the event.
The Breakfast began with RBS National Bank CEO/President Joe Hoffman welcoming the 100 guests and showing a video, which illustrated both the history of RBS and its commitment to the community. His comments on some of RBS’s fundraising activities, such as “Blue Jean Fridays,” inspired guests to create fun ways in which their companies could enhance their own fundraising throughout the year. United Way President & CEO Merle Berke-Schlessel expressed her appreciation to the group, noting how integral they are to the success of the Community Impact initiatives that are making real and lasting changes in the greater Bridgeport area.
Augmenting the celebrity of the occasion, former NBA star and 2006 Campaign Chair Charles D. Smith, Jr. spoke to the guests, urging them to continue their support of United Way’s work. Although Mr. Smith now resides in New Jersey, he maintains strong ties to our community and travels many miles between the two states to ensure that the needs of the Bridgeport region continue to be addressed.
