Breakfast on Homelessness

On March 28, 2007 United Way President Merle Berke-Schlessel, Esq., pictured here with Senator Edwin Gomes and State Representative Andres Ayala, facilitated the Continuum of Care Legislative Breakfast on Homelessness. More than 25 community members and elected officials attended the breakfast at which speakers from United Way and the Continuum of Care presented the 2007 Legislative agenda on ending homelessness. Senator Gomes' statement that "We have people who work 40 hours per week and can not afford an apartment in Bridgeport" relayed the harsh reality of the current housing situation. Ending the breakfast on a positive note, Senator Ayala reminded attendees of the May 12 "Walk to End Homelessness" fundraiser at Captain's Cove Seaport.
