Destination Home Update: November 30, 2006
On November 30, the Destination Home Impact Committee approved two grants for the family supportive housing project:
- Mutual Housing/Merton House Supportive Housing: $45,000 granted
United Way’s contribution enables the creation of 22 two- and three-bedroom units, which would be connected to services provided by St.Vincent’s Medical Center and Catholic Charities.
- Fairfield ‘08/Downtown Bridgeport Phase III/Clinton Commons/Fairfield Scattered Sites: $30,000 granted.
Fairfield ’08 represents the combination of four service providers: Alpha Community Services, Operation Hope, St. Luke’s Lifeworks, and Interfaith Housing of Westport. Together, they are developing supportive housing throughout Fairfield County through strategic partnerships with for-profit developers as well as through their individual organizations. As partners in Fairfield ’08, the four agencies employ a small staff of housing development specialists. Funds were approved for three projects: Downtown Bridgeport Phase III (for-profit unit set-aside with Operation Hope for support services), Clinton Commons (in partnership with Alpha Community Services, and Fairfield Scattered Sites (in partnership with Operation Hope).
As Fairfield ’08 represents innovative approaches to solving difficult countywide homelessness, the Committee felt that it was important to support those efforts. While Fairfield ’08 is new, the component organizations are recognized for their contributions to the supply of permanent supportive housing in the region. The Committee granted $30,000 to Fairfield ’08 for the development of financial packages.
