United Way of Eastern Fairfield County is pleased to recognize our community partner, Ashcroft Incorporated. Ashcroft has a long and interesting history both as a business and as a United Way supporter. In 1852, during the emergence of the steam engine industry, Edward H. Ashcroft of Lynn, Massachusetts bought the American rights to a French design of a steam engine pressure gauge, giving birth to the Ashcroft Manufacturing Company. Since those early days, Ashcroft Manufacturing Company has grown and evolved into an international company with operations in the United States, Brazil, Germany, Canada, Mexico, China and Singapore and joint ventures in Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.

Known today as Ashcroft Incorporated, the company’s products have become the benchmark in pressure and temperature measurement instruments, widely recognized under the brand names Ashcroft®, Heise®, Willy®, and Weksler®. They can be found in wastewater treatment facilities, biotech and pharmaceutical labs, medical applications, semiconductor facilities, refineries, power generation plants, food processing plants, pulp and paper mills, chemical manufacturing plants and the host of support companies that serve these industries.

The Stratford facility houses world headquarters and Ashcroft Pressure and Temperature Instrument Operations. Occupying over 325,000 square feet, the ISO 9001-certified facility is a self-contained, vertically integrated operation complete with engineering staff, customer service, product marketing and sales management resources. A wide selection of Ashcroft products come out of this facility, including pressure gauges, temperature instruments, and instrument isolators to meet many and varied application demands.

Many things have changed at Ashcroft over the years, but one thing that has not changed is their support of the community and, in particular, United Way. As consistent as the quality of the infamous pressure gauge is the generous spirit of Ashcroft employees. In fact, Ashcroft’s annual United Way campaigns can be traced back more than thirty years.

Today, Ashcroft and its 275 employees at the Stratford facility remain active members of the greater Bridgeport community and continue to be tremendous supporters of United Way of Eastern Fairfield County. Together, they pledged more than $18,300.00 to United Way through the 2005/2006 Employee Giving Campaign.
