Each year, the United Way of Eastern Fairfield County’s
Board of Directors presents two Spirit of Caring Awards to
honor an individual and a company who have shown
outstanding volunteerism and commitment to the greater Bridgeport community.

Spirit of Caring for an Individual:
Kaye Williams, Captain’s Cove Seaport
“HMS Rose, the Gustoff Whitehead replica and research, his work with the Aquaculture School, his use of the Cove for civic and community projects, his creative placement of a dump into a greenbelt project, and the encouragement of diversity at the Cove where families of all races are welcome . . . when someone says something can't be done Kaye just goes ahead and does it.”

Spirit of Caring for an Organization:
Greater Bridgeport Area Continuum of Care
The Continuum of Care, chaired by Meghan Lowney of Operation Hope and William Hoey of the Catholic Center, is a volunteer group that has provided a structure for coordinated homelessness services in the greater Bridgeport region for the last 10 years. For that alone they are deserving of this award. Now, the Continuum has stepped up to the plate and accepted the challenge of implementing the strategies of The Greater Bridgeport Area Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness.
